The Poniac Solstice Luxury Sports Car
The New Solstice Delivers!

The new Poniac Solstice from General Motors, is a wonderful new sports car offering. It has clean racy lines, and a 2.4 liter double overhead camshaft engine.  This car is set to join the elite ranks of the nations favorite roadsters.

The Poniac Solstice certainly looks like the classic sports cars from the 1950s which is coupled up with its own share of uniqueness that the overall effect leads to an original design that is a blend of the past and the future. This car has proven to be a very comfortable ride because of it's long wheelbase. This is a unique feature as most sports cars cannot compare in this area. Packed with features for entertainment and for comfort, a ride inside the 2006 Poniac Solstice is a wonderful experience!

The Pontiac follows the traditional sports cars design, with twin seats and a drop top, for those sunny days. But if you think that it’s just for posing at the beach, then think again. The Soltice Produces some serious brake horsepower at around 177 bhp compared to the Mazda Miatas 142 bhp, and has a good power to weight ratio. The power is delivered to the rear wheel drive through a 5 speed manual transmission (although there will be a 5 speed Hydra-Matic option), and the engine is very free revving with plenty of power on tap when you need it.

Engine & Power
  • 2.4L Ecotec®  DOHC VVT with Electronic Throttle Control
  • 2.0L Turbo Ecotec® DOHC VVT SIDI
Transmission
  • Aisin® 5-speed manual close-ratio
  • Optional 5-speed automatic
MPG mileage estimates**
  • 2.4L Ecotec®  DOHC VVT(manual): 20/28 (city/highway mpg)
  • 2.4L Ecotec® DOHC VVT (automatic): 22/26 (city/highway mpg)
  • 2.0L Turbo Ecotec® DOHC VVT(manual): 22/31(city/highway mpg)
  • 2.0L Turbo Ecotec® DOHC VVT (automatic): 21/29(city/highway mpg)

To improve efficiency and performance, the engine receives variable valve timing with dual camshaft phasing. GM will also introduce SIDI, Spark Ignition Direct Injection, making this their first North American engine featuring direct injection. The SIDI system benefits the engine by converting highly pressurized gas into a fine mist, which is then injected directly into the combustion chamber. In this state, less fuel is needed to cause ignition, the engine can runs leanly, and more efficiently. The Soltice GXP will be EPA rated at 20-mpg city and 27 mpg highway.
